About

Zimbabwe Car Hire is a Bulawayo firm on Luton Street that rents four-by-fours for self-drive trips, with delivery in Victoria Falls and one-way hires to Harare. It rates 4.9 from 42 Google reviews.

Visitors from abroad use it for Hwange, Matopo and long road trips. A couple from Sweden took a Toyota Hilux for three weeks from Victoria Falls to Harare, with room for tents, chairs and groceries, and got practical help quickly when something went wrong on the way. Another renter took a Toyota Prado to Hwange and found it older but mechanically sound, with working air conditioning and two spare wheels. Delivery and collection at hotels and Airbnbs saved several renters a trip to the airport.

Vehicle condition can vary. One pair who hired twice had a Prado in good order, then a Fortuner with hard shocks and worn tyres that worried them on the road from Bulawayo to the Falls. Payment caught another renter out: on top of the cash deposit, the balance was due in cash, which they felt the confirmation email should have made clear. The same renter found the team less fussy about small marks than the big chains.
