About

Kuimba Shiri sits on the shore of Lake Chivero near Norton: a bird sanctuary that also runs a restaurant and bar, horse riding and lodges. It is a family day out from Harare, with lawns by the water where children can run while adults sit in the shade.

The birds are the draw. Visitors mention a walk-through enclosure and a bird show, and one guest remembers an owl perched on their hand as the high point of the day. One family's children loved the enclosure and the green space and didn't want to leave. Another reviewer lists boat rides, a kiddies' pool, a train ride and playground, and horse riding, and would take overseas visitors there. The food gets mostly good words, and one family picked up farm eggs and home-made butter at the gift shop.

Two things to plan for. Service can be slow: one group waited a long time for their order, for cutlery and for salt, and their starter arrived halfway through the mains. And one visitor who paid at the gate with a large note was told change would follow, then left without it, so carry exact cash. The same reviewer says the lake water itself isn't clean. Rated 4.3 from nearly 580 Google reviews.
