About
Matobo National Park covers the granite hills around Matopos, south of Bulawayo, and one visitor puts the drive from the CBD at about 50 minutes. It works as a full day out for anyone keen on scenery, rock art and rhino, and there are lodges and campsites for those who want longer.
Reviewers split their praise between the landscape and the history. The granite hills and wide views get plenty of mention, and World's View and Cecil John Rhodes's grave come up repeatedly as places to stop. Rock art at Pomongwe and Efifi caves impressed one couple who toured in January 2026; they note some painting sites need a short walk off the road. Another reviewer explains that the park has two parts, one for game drives and one for the rock art. The same couple saw a white rhino from the vehicle, along with waterbuck, klipspringer and dassies. Hikers enjoy the trails and caves.
Plan for the terrain. Main roads are tarred, but one reviewer says a 4x4 is needed for rougher tracks, including some rock art sites and the better game areas. Signage needs work, according to another. Expect steep climbs and bring water, a hat and good shoes. It holds 4.4 from over 750 Google reviews.
