About

Tshabalala Game Sanctuary is a game park in Bulawayo that people visit for a drive among the animals and a braai. It holds 3.1 from 19 Google reviews, so go with modest expectations.

The lions are the main draw. One visitor found being close to them a real thrill, and another who came for the braai rated it highly. A more recent reviewer valued the visit as a chance to learn something about wildlife.

The recurring complaint is how little game there is to see. Reviewers list the occasional birds, a few lions, bucks and zebras, and not much else. Tall grass hid the antelope on one visit. One group who self-drove in September 2025, on advice from reception rather than with a guide, saw only two lions far off and nothing at the waterhole they were sent to. Another drove in to find burnt bush and no animals at all. Service from the waiters also drew criticism.

If you go, ask at reception whether a guide is available and where the animals have been seen lately.

“The braai is great, however, the service delivery in terms of waiters can do with improvements. There are few animals to see, other than the occasional birds, some lions, bucks and zebras there's really nothing much to see.”

“The close proximity to the lion is a thrilling yet exciting experience. Due to tall grass all antelopes where out site.”
